Lets put our minds together and see what life we can make for our children - Chief Sitting Bull
I Lived and grew up along the river of Fort Thompson, SD Aka Crow Creek Sioux Reservation. I first want to say that I am glad God made me who I am and put me where I'm from. I have so many good memories that make me such a fun loving person. I used to dance fancy shawl, and I also held the crown for a couple years for royalty. I used to do a hoop dance performance that was taught to me. From my first Sweat lodge to getting my Dakota name to all the events that were held in my life it was awesome to be apart of such things. The Community I live in has its pros and cons. Politics, gossip sometimes clouds the culture, and tradition although we try our best to keep it going.
Tshwana Medicine Crow age;20 female Enrolled member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe said, “Our Ancestors taught us to be warriors to be strong and we must keep our tradition alive and teach our kids to pass on the good ways of life.”
There are so many levels growing up on the reservation and how it molds you into the person you are. I love gathering powwows when family's have events, community events. I could only image how great it was way back in the tipi days compared to now. New technology is taking over and we have to learn to adapt to it. "respect" should be valued more our elders and youth should be valued more. I'm glad I'm learning so I can teach my daughter what my mom and grandma taught me. The ways and how we live life is very sacred and we should take it more seriously so we can all achieve our goals. I want to help others morally the youth because they are our future.
